Ottoman Empire Colonization (1517-1917)[edit | edit source]
From 1517-1917, Palestine, which includes the current state of Israel, was under Ottoman rule. After the defeat of the Turks in World War One, the British gained rule over Palestine.[1]

British Colonization (1917-1948)[edit | edit source]
The British army conquered Jerusalem in 1917, and Britain was given administrative authority over Palestine. In 1947, Britain ceded Palestine to the United Nations. In May 1948, on the same day that the British Army withdrew from Jerusalem, the state of Israel was established from a partitioned Palestine and recognized as a nation.[2]
