[[Category:COUNTRY]]
Step 1.B. If Archives & Libraries Page Already Exists
- Make sure the page has these 4 headings:
- == Archives ==
- == Libraries ==
- == Museums ==
- == Record Offices ==
- If these headings are not on the page, add them.
- Put every place/address under the correct heading (if they are not already there).
- If there are more headings, add the content under the most relevant heading (of the 4) and delete that heading.
- If there is any content not under a heading (such as an introduction), put it under the most relevant heading.
Step 2: Research
Research every country to find relevant archives, libraries, museums, and record offices. Add these places under the relevant heading as follows:
Archives
Include: name, address, telephone number, email, website, and brief synopsis (about goals and resources available) of each archive.
If there are many archives, it is fine to add subheadings to organize them (such as: national archives/regional archives/provincial archives, by county/region, etc.).
Example:
Aberdeen City and Aberdeenshire Archives
Old Aberdeen House
Dunbar Street
Aberdeen AB24 3UJE UK
Telephone: 01224 481775
Email: archives@aberdeencity.gov.uk
Website: Aberdeen City and Aberdeenshire Archives
- This archive provides an important service to members and officials of Aberdeen City Council while maintaining a strong public profile through searchroom services and outreach activities. They also provide a professional archives service for Aberdeenshire Council. They ensure that the records are housed in secure accommodation under suitable environmental conditions on our two sites - the Town House and Old Aberdeen House.
Libraries
Include: name, address, telephone number, email, and website.
If there are many libraries, it is fine to add subheadings to organize them (such as: by county/region, etc.).
Example:
Achiltibuie Library
Coigach Community Hall
Achiltibuie IV26 2YG UK
Telephone: 01854 622305
Email: achiltibuie.library@highlifehighland.com
Website: Achiltibuie Library
Museums
Include: name, address, telephone number, email, website, and brief synopsis (about scope, purpose) of each museum.
If there are many museums, it is fine to add subheadings to organize them (such as: by county/region, by type, etc.).
Example:
Glenview Folk Museum
Aghoo
Ballinamore
Telephone: 071 964 4157
Email: glenviewmuseum@gmail.com
Website: Glenview Folk Museum
- The museum consists of many different attractions from old household & farm items to vehicles and a full street scene which has been fully reconstructed to really give you a feel for 1930s Ireland.
Record Offices
Include: name, address, telephone number, email, website, and brief synopsis (purpose, what they hold).
If there are many record offices, it is fine to add subheadings to organize them (such as: by county/region, etc.).
Example:
Public Record Office
Unit 40A
Spring Valley Industrial Estate
Douglas, Isle of Man, IM2 2QS
Telephone: +44 (0) 1624 693569
Email: public.records@gov.im
Website: Public Record Office
- The Isle of Man Public Record Office preserves the records of the government. These records include those from the national and local governments and the courts.
Google Translate
Because you are researching in countries around the world, oftentimes websites will be in another language. There are a few ways to get around this:
- When on the website, look at the top of the page for the word "Languages" or "English", for a list of languages, or for a United States or British flag. Choose the "English" word or flag. Often, websites have an English version of their website.
- After searching in Google to find the archive/library, look next to the link for the words "Translate this page". Google will translate the page for you when you click on the link.
- When you are already on the page, right click on the mouse and click "Translate to English".
- When already on the page, a popup may appear asking "Translate this page?"
