Research use: Very useful supplement to civil and parish records, especially for periods prior to the late eighteenth century; often the only source of family information available for native Africans.

Record type: Transcribed oral genealogies to be filmed only. Tribal and family histories, pedigrees, etc. covering many Senegalese and Gambians not in the civil or church records.

Time period: 1700 to present.

Contents: Transcribed family pedigrees obtained by oral interview.

Location: Oral History and Antiquities Division in Banjul, the Gambia; Oral History and Antiquities Division in Dakar, Senegal.

Population coverage: Approximately 40% to 50%.

Reliability: Good.^[1]
