The Netherlands Online Genealogy Records
These are genealogy links to The Netherlands online databases to assist in researching your family history. This online collection has links to online databases and indexes that may include birth records, marriage records, death records, biographies, cemeteries, censuses, histories, immigration records, land records, maps, military records, native races, newspapers, obituaries, or probate records. Incomplete.
Vital Records
Births, Baptisms, or Christenings; Marriages; Deaths or Burials - Church Records and Civil Registration
  • FamilySearch Historical Record Collection for the Netherlands has church records (best record to use before 1811) and civil registration (best record to use after 1811). However, they are much easier to navigate using Zoekakten as an index.
  • Instructions for Zoekakten: Click on the two-letter abbreviation tab for the province. This will bring up a list of localities. Click on the locality you want. Next you will see a list of record types to select.

    • Maak een keuze - "make a choice". Click here once you choose the record type. You will then see organized lists of available images.
  • Wie Was Wie -a genealogical collection created by the Dutch Rijksarchiefdienst (National Archives), taken directly from the Civil Register, the most important Dutch source for genealogical research. Marriage records from all provinces were entered first into the system. Most of the participating archives are also entering records of birth and death. As of April 2015 over 107 million records have been extracted and posted. Incomplete.

Large Databases With Many Record Types
  • Digital Resources Netherlands and Belgium, geneaknowhow.net. Click on the folder titled “Digital Resources Netherlands and Belgium”. The left-hand navigation bar includes general information, passenger lists, and then names each province in both countries with the sections:”Internet” [lists links to internet resources for towns in this province] and “disk/cd-r” [material available on diskettes or CD-Rom, either free or for purchase].
  • Zoekakten. The site lists records available on FamilySearch.org and offers a an easier interface to get to the record type and time period needed. Also has some indexes, i.e. to military records and emigrants.
  • Digitalestamboom. Indexed births, marriages, deaths,and other records from Gemmentearchief Delt, Archief Emland, Regionaal Historisch Centrum Eindhoven, Gemeentearchief Rotterdam, Haags Gemeentearchief.
  • Website for the Dutch archive system. If searching for a specific locality, click on “Nederland” in the top left and choose either “plaats” (place) or “provincie” (province). Click on the locality in which you want to search, and a list of all the archives, by type and town, comes up with automatic links.English is available for part of the site.

  • Netherlands, Limburg Province, Certificates of Nationality, 1860-1913. Certificates of Dutch Nationals and their children who lived and worked in other countries, principally Germany and Belgium. Information includes name, date and place of birth or age, residence, and occupation. Many certificates also contain the name, date and place of birth of parents, spouse, and children. Only surnames Aacken to Kicken are included in the collection. Index. Incomplete.

  • Netherlands, Passenger Lists Holland-America Line, 1900-1974. Passenger lists for the Holland-America Line (Holland Amerika Lijn) which transported numerous refugees from war-torn Europe to the United States prior to 1941. Images, no index. Incomplete.
