What is the Global Family Reunion?[edit | edit source]
The Global Family Reunion is the "biggest, most extraordinary and most inclusive family reunion in history." The main event will be held on the grounds of the 1964 New York State Fair, current location of the New York Hall of Science. You can read more about it on their website GlobalFamilyReunion.com.
The organizer and creator of the event is A. J. Jacobs. In his keynote address from RootsTech 2015, A. J. explains how the idea came to be. A. J. feels passionately that because we are all cousins if we could remember that the world would be a more peaceful place. He created the event so we could all meet our cousins. All proceeds of the New York event go towards the fight against Alzheimer's. For more information on the event in New York City, please visit the Global Family Reunion website.
When is the Global Family Reunion?[edit | edit source]
The Global Family Reunion will be held on Saturday, June 6, 2015. If you can't attend the event in New York you are welcome to bring your family and friends and attend a satellite party at the Family History Library in downtown Salt Lake City, Utah. The event in Salt Lake City will run from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.
There is no charge to attend the Family HIstory Library event. Actrivities at the event we will include:
- Llive entertainment
- Food vendors
- Carnival games
- A rock wall
- Bounce houses
- Face painting
- Storytelling
- Library tours
- Classes
All activities and entertainment is family-centered and family-friendly.
Be part of the world's biggest family photo[edit | edit source]
In conjunction with the live event in New York, we will be taking a group photo in front of the Family HIstory Library at 10:30 a.m.. The photo will then be sent electronically to be included in the photo taken in New York. If you'd like to be part of this history making photo, please be in front of the library by 10:25 a.m.
