Benin

Research use: Helpful for establishing family relationships. Their value is particularly important since other record types are often not available.

Record type: Population enumeration.

Time period: 1893 to present.

Contents: Individual names, relationships, number of households for each village, unmarried mature males, widows who are heads of households, brief physical descriptions and estimates of the value of crop yields and income from livestock. Also listed were those who had served in the military forces.

Location: National archives in Porto Novo.

Population coverage: Estimate at 60%. There is not sufficient information to make an accurate measure of overall population coverage.[1]
