Most residents came to Washington from other states or from Canada. (See Seattle Passenger Lists for those from other countries.) Although few actual migration records exist, try:

• Censuses (use birthdates and places of children as clues)

• Land (1st deed may reveal previous residence)

• Death-related records of children may give town or county of birth

• Records of relatives and neighbors
