This article describes the services and resources available at a FamilySearch Center, a branch facility of the FamilySearch Library.

The Cheyenne Family History Center is located in the Cheyenne Wyoming Stake Center, at the corner of Western Hills & Education Drive, Cheyenne, Wyoming. Entrance is at the Southeast corner of the building. The public is invited to use the resources free of charge. The Center is dedicated to providing education and support for the family history community in the Cheyenne area.

Class Descriptions

Ancestry.com for Eveyone
Did you know that you can access Ancestry.com at our Family History Center? We will introduce some good search strategies for getting the most out of this website and look at some of the valuable record collections it contains. Both beginners and seasoned researchers will learn something new. Class length: one class

Beginning Research and Using the Family History Center Portal
Census record or birth certificate? Immigration records or naturalization papers? Ready to start some basic research to find new information and verify existing data on your ancestors? We will give you a process to follow and teach some tools that will help you in your search. We will also introduce you to some great research websites. Class length: 3 classes, one per week for 3 weeks.

Family Tree Introduction
We will start at the beginning and take you through everything you will need to know to begin working with your ancestors on the FamilySearch Family Tree including how to submit your LDS ordinances. We’ll include hands-on practice so that you can try everything that you learn. No previous experience with new Family History or Family Tree is required. Class length: 3 classes, one per week for 3 weeks

Family Tree Photos & Stories
Want to add photos to FamilySearch Family Tree? How about sharing some of those “Grandpa Stories” that you remember from days gone by? This class will walk you through all the steps, from scanning your photos to uploading them to FamilySearch and linking those photos to your ancestors. Class length: one class

FamilySearch Indexing
Explains what the FamilySearch Indexing project is working to accomplish and how we can all help in this great effort. Perhaps the easiest, most relaxing family history work available today! You will actually sign up and Index your first batch in class. Bring your LDS membership record with you in order to sign on. Class length: one class

From the Mouth of Grandma: How to collect and learn from oral histories
Christmas means family gatherings; a rich environment of family history and family legends. Learn how to effectively navigate the minefields of failing memories, tales growing tall, and white-washings to find the gold mines of truth. Class length: one class

Getting Organized – Managing the Chaos!
Wondering how to file the abundance of certificates, family group sheets, and photos that accumulate while searching for our ancestors? Come and learn a great method for taming the chaos, both for paper and electronic documents. We will also cover organizing your FamilySearch SourceBox. Class length: one class

Putting Flesh on Genealogy: Finding the person behind the name in your family tree
Interested in knowing more about that “name” in your family tree? If part of you has been shaped by your parents, and part of them was shaped by their parents, learning about your ancestors can reveal a great deal about ourselves. This class is a beginning in a series that can help us find much more than just names that share the branches of our family tree. Class length: one class

RootsMagic Intro
RootsMagic is computer software that can help you organize and work with your genealogy information. It makes family history easy. It is certified to share data with the FamilySearch Family Tree. We will introduce you to the software and show you how to modify your data and share it with Family Tree.  Class Length: 2 classes, one per week for 2 weeks

Sense of Place: Importance of geography to individuals, families, and communities.
What can you learn about your ancestors from their place of birth/death? If “home is where the heart is,” how did the place your family called home help to shape their personality and outlook on life? You may even find that their “home place” has left a mark on your personality. Class length: one class

Tour of FamilySearch
An introduction to all of the tools and collections included on FamilySearch.org. We will introduce you to the record collections, the wiki and the online research courses in the Learning Center, just to name a few! Class length: one class

• Main room has 9 computer stations for hands-on use by class members plus a computer, projector and teaching station for the instructor.
