Brief History

The 1st Battalion, Missouri Cavalry (1st Indian Brigade) was organized during the spring of 1864. The unit was at Fort Washita, Indian Territory, in May, 1865 and soon disbanded.  Commanding officers were Colonel John Stevens Bowen, Colonel Hugh Garland, and Colonel Amos Camden Riley.
