Confederate Records

  • National Archives. Confederate Pension Records, gives information about records and where they are for each Confederate State.  Very helpful. 

Ohio

  • The Civil War Archive: Ohio, information is from A Compendium of the War of the Rebellion, by Frederick H. Dyer.
  • Ohio in the Civil War, by Larry Stevens. This is a research site providing detailed information concerning Ohio's contribution during the Civil War.  It contains extensive bibliographical material about Ohio's Infantry, Cavalry, Artillery and Miscellaneous regiments, as well as links to libraries and archives.  Bibliography for Ohio in the Civil War lists many Internet sites and print materials.
  • United States Army, Army Heritage Collection OnLine, has bibliographies of unit histories, Union biographies and Confederate biographies by name of soldier.
  • Military Units Formed in Ohio is a list of Ohio units sometimes with length of service or number of men in the unit.
  • Ohio Regimental Files, includes links to many digitized records about the Ohio Units, also lists other sources not online.
  • Northwest Ohio in the Civil War, Center for Archival Collections, lists books,Internet sites, and other sources, including an Ohio Civil War newspaper index and name list of manuscripts.
  • Ohio Civil War Roster, by the Ohio Genealogical Society, has a name searchable roster of Ohio soldiers. The section,,Ohio Civil War Genealogy Center, is by subscription. It includes additional online databases and rsources about Ohio in the Civil War.
  • Civil War Infantry Units, Ohio History Central, includes statistics on Ohio soldiers generally as well as specifically by regiment.

  • Ohio in the Civil War by Larry Stevens, includes brief histories of the regiments, bibliographies of regiments, and often lists of companies with their counties.
