Companies in this Regiment with the Counties of Origin[edit | edit source]
Men often enlisted in a company recruited in the counties where they lived though not always. After many battles, companies might be combined because so many men were killed or wounded. However if you are unsure which company your ancestor was in, try the company recruited in his county first.
The Civil War Soldiers and Sailors database lists 2761 men on its roster for this unit. [1].
Company A - Captain O.J. Crane
Company B - Captain James T. Sterling
Company C - Captain Giles W. Shurtliff
Company D - Captain John N. Dyer
Company E - Captain John W. Sprague
Company F - Captain D. B. Clayton
Company G - Captain F. A. Seymour
Company H - Captain Joel F. Asper
Company I - Captain W. R. Sterling
Company K - Captain John F. Schutte
The information about the captains is from The Seventh Regiment: A Record, by Major George L. Wood, (New York: James Miller, 1865), page 23. Internet Archive.
County listing from Steve Ward's Buckeyes All, Part I Revised, is given on Larry Stevens' Ohio in the Civil War web page, 7th Ohio Infantry .
