Nobility records [Šlechtické písemnosti]

Nobility Records consist of a variety of records concerning noble families.
Time period: 1300 to 1918.
Contents:

  • Personal family documents [doklady 12th to 20th century] - baptism, marriage and death certificates, announcements, family correspondence, diaries, diplomas.
  • Investigations [investigace 16th to 19th century] - records of investigation whether an individual belonged to nobility or not, including genealogical tables, armorials, baptism, marriage and death certificates.
  • Other - Lists of coats of arms [amalesy 1530 to1800], genealogical tables [genealogické tabulky 12th to 18th century], lists of nobility [seznamy šlechty 1639 to1850].

Location: District archives [okresní archívy]. Many are included in distinct family collections of the archives.
Research use: For individuals who can prove their connection to a line of nobility these records can prove to be comprehensive and reliable. Many nobility records can link three to eight generations, extending far before the keeping of church registers.
