  • 8th Regiment, South Carolina Infantry
    8th Infantry Regiment was organized at Marion, South Carolina, during the spring of 1861. Many of the men were from Darlington and Marion counties. The unit surrendered with the Army of Tennessee.
  • 9th Regiment, South Carolina Reserves
    9th Infantry Regiment was organized in April, 1861 for a one year term of service. Many of the men were recruited in Lancaster, Dillon, Kershaw, and Lexington counties. Sent to Virginia, it was assigned to General D.R. Jones' Brigade, Department of Northern Virginia, and in April, 1862. The regiment disbanded, but many of the officers and men joined other South Carolina commands.
  • 9th Regiment, South Carolina Infantry
    9th Infantry Regiment [also called Pee Dee Legion or Pee Dee Rifles] was formed during the spring of 1862 with men who had served in Nesbit's Battalion State Troops. The unit was assigned to the Department of South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida. Later it merged into the 26th South Carolina Regiment.
  • 10th Regiment, South Carolina Infantry
    10th Infantry Regiment was organized at Camp Marion, near Georgetown, South Carolina, in July, 1861. Its members were raised in the counties of Georgetown, Horry, Williamsburg, Marion, and Charleston. During the war it was assigned to General Manigault's and Sharp's Brigade and from September, 1863 to April, 1864, was consolidated with the 19th Regiment. The unit served with the Army of Tennessee from Murfreesboro to Atlanta. Surrendered on April 26, 1865.
  • 11th Regiment, South Carolina Infantry (9th Volunteers)
    11th Infantry Regiment [also called 9th Regiment] was organized during the summer of 1861 with men from Beaufort, Clarendon, and Colleton counties. It was assigned to Hagood's Brigade, then one company was permitted to organize and equip as a light battery (Beaufort Artillery), and the regiment served with nine companies. Surrendered on April 26, 1865.
  • 12th Regiment, South Carolina Infantry
    12th Infantry Regiment completed its organization in July, 1861, at Lightwoodknot Springs, near Columbia, South Carolina. The men were raised in the counties of Oconee, York, Lancaster, Kershaw, and Fairfield. It served on the South Carolina coast near Pocotaligo, then in April, 1862, moved to Virginia. Assigned to General Gregg's and McGowan's Brigade.
  • 13th Regiment, South Carolina Infantry
    13th Infantry Regiment was organized in July, 1861, at Lightwoodknot Springs, near Columbia, South Carolina. Many of the men were recruited in Greenville, Newberry, Abbeville, and Spartanburg counties. In April, 1862, it was ordered to Virginia and assigned to General Gregg's and McGowan's Brigade.
  • 14th Regiment, South Carolina Infantry
    14th Infantry Regiment, organized in July, 1861, at Lightwoodknot Springs, near Columbia, South Carolina, contained men from Edgefield, Darlington, Laurens, Greenville, Spartanburg, and Kershaw counties. In October the unit moved to the South Carolina coast near Pocotaligo, and on Janury 1, 1862, it was under fire from Federal gunboats. Ordered to Virginia in April, the 14th was assigned to General Gregg's and McGowan's Brigade.
  • 15th Regiment, South Carolina Infantry
    15th Infantry Regiment completed its organization in September, 1861, at Lightwoodknot Springs, near Columbia, South Carolina. Its members were raised in the counties of Richland, Union, Lexington, Kershaw, Fairfield, and Williamsburg. After serving on James Island, the unit moved to Virginia and was assigned to General Drayton's, Kershaw's, Kennedy's, and Conner's Brigade.
  • 16th Regiment, South Carolina Infantry (Greenville Regiment)
    16th Infantry Regiment, recruited in Greenville County, was organized and mustered into Confederate service in December, 1861. It moved to Charleston and for a time was stationed at Adams Run under General Hagood. During December, 1862, the unit was ordered to Wilmington, North Carolina and in May, 1863, to Jackson, Mississippi where it was assigned to General Gist's Brigade in the Department of Mississippi and East Louisiana. Later it joined the Army of Tennessee. Surrendered on April 26, 1865.
  • 17th Regiment, South Carolina Infantry
    17th Infantry Regiment was formed early in 1862 with men from Barnwell, York, Chester, Lancaster, and Fairfield counties. It served on the coast of South Carolina, then moved to Virginia. During the war it was brigaded under Generals Evans, Elliott, and Wallace. Surrendered April 1865.
  • 18th Regiment, South Carolina Infantry
    18th Infantry Regiment was assembled during the winter of 1861-1862 with men from Laurens County and other counties in the northwestern part of the state. After serving in the Department of South Carolina, Georiga, and Florida, it was ordered to Virginia. During the war it was assigned to General Evans', Elliott's, and Wallace's Brigade.
  • 19th Regiment, South Carolina Infantry
    19th Cavalry Battalion was formed in Janaury, 1865, by consolidating five independent cavalry companies. It served in the Department of South Carolina, Georgia and Florida. Surrendered with the Army of Tennessee.
  • 20th Regiment, South Carolina Infantry
    20th Infantry Regiment was organized at Orangeburg, South Carolina, during the winter of 1861-1862. Many of the men were recuirted in Sumter, Orangeburg, and Calhoun counties. In the spring of 1864 it moved to Virginia and was assigned to General Kershaw's, Kennedy's, and Conner's Brigade. They surrendered on April 26.
  • 21st Regiment, South Carolina Infantry
    21st Infantry Regiment was organized in November, 1861, with men from what is known as the Pee Dee region of the state. It served for some time in the Charleston area attached to General Hagood's Brigade in the Department of South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida. Surrendered with the Army of Tennessee.
  • 22nd Regiment, South Carolina Infantry
    22nd Infantry Regiment was organized and mustered into Confederate service in December, 1861. Some of its members were recruited in Oconee and Edgefield counties. After serving in South Carolina, the unit was sent to Virginia and assigned to General Evans', Elliot's, and Wallace's Brigade.
  • 23rd Regiment, South Carolina Infantry (Hatch's Coast Rangers)
    23rd Infantry Regiment [also called Coast Rangers] was assembled at Charleston, South Carolina, in November, 1861. Most of the men were from Horry, Georgetown, Charleston, and Colleton counties. After being stationed in South Carolina, the regiment moved to Virginia and during the war served in General Evans', Elliot's, and Wallace's Brigade.
  • 24th Regiment, South Carolina Infantry
    24th Infantry Regiment was organized during the winter of 1861-1862 with men from Charleston and the counties of Marion and Edgefield. In May, 1863, moved to Mississippi. Assigned to General Gist's Brigade, it was engaged at Jackson, then joined the Army of Tennessee. Few surrendered on April 26, 1865.
  • 25th Regiment, South Carolina Infantry (Eutaw Regiment)
    25th Infantry Regiment [also called Eutaw Regiment] was organized and mustered into Confederate service in July, 1862. It was formed with men of the 11th Battalion who were from Charleston and the middle region of the state. It served in the Charleston area assigned to the Department of South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida, and in September, 1863, it was placed in General Hagood's Brigade. All the men present at Fort Fisher were captured, and the few who later served in the regiment surrendered in April, 1865.
  • 26th Regiment, South Carolina Infantry
    26th Infantry Regiment was organized at Charleston, South Carolina, in September, 1862, by consolidating the 6th and 9th Battalions South Carolina Infantry. After serving in South Carolina it moved to Mississippi, was placed in N.G. Evans' Brigade. In the spring of 1864 was sent to Virginia. Here it was assigned to Elliott's and Wallace's Brigade.
  • 27th Regiment, South Carolina Infantry (Gaillard's)
    27th Infantry Regiment was formed at Charleston, South Carolina, in September, 1863, by consolidating the Charleston Infantry Battalion and the 1st South Carolina Battalion Sharpshooters. The unit was assigned to General Hagood's Brigade.
