| The New York State Archives has the following types of genealogical materials:

| *Vital records indexes, including the New York State Department of Health microfiche indexes to birth, marriage, and death certificates filed with that Department. which begins with 1880-1881. The index covers the entire state outside New York City.

| *Military Records, from various conflicts, and various branches of the service. They include service, pension, or bounty land warrant case files for persons who served in the U.S. armed forces. Mist colonial war records were destroyed in a 1911 fire but substitues for some of these records are available. Revolutionary War Military Patents, land grant applications, accounts and claims, disabled veterans pension claims.Also contaains records from the War of 1812, The Civil War. the Spanish-American War, the Mexican Border Conflict, World Wars I and II, and some other military files
