EDZELL, a '''parish''', partly in the county of Kingcardine, but chiefly in that of Forfar, 6 miles (N. by W.) from Brechin. This place, in old records designated ''Edziel'', perhaps derives its name from a Gaelic term signifying "the cleft," or "dividing of the waters." The church was erected in the year 1818, at the end of the village.
