	Images of selected Confederate Slave Payrolls, 1861-1865 [https://catalog.archives.gov/id/719477 NAID 719477] consisting of 5,971 file units from Record Group 59 War Department Collection of Confederate Records. The collection consists of payrolls for slave labor on Confederate military defenses during the Civil War. The payroll were created by the Confederate Quartermaster Department. Most payrolls are for the state of Virginia. The records will include the slave name, place worked and the slave owner's name.
