==== General Society of Colonial Wars ====

This society was established in 1893 and has no permanent headquarters. Membership in the society requires that the member be a male at least 18 years of age and be able to show direct lineage to an ancestor who served in the Colonial Wars.

The "Index of Ancestors and Roll of Members of the Society of Colonial Wars" ([http://books.google.com/books?id=PygwAAAAYAAJ Google Books]) ({{FHL|1036804|disp=FHL&nbsp;1036804&nbsp;item&nbsp;4}}) ([http://www.worldcat.org/oclc/985996 Worldcat]) was published in 1922. The book is divided into three parts. Part I contains an alphabetical list of Colonial Wars ancestors with birth and death dates, war in which they served, rank, and a list of members who descended from that person as of about 1921. Part II contains a list of members with their General Society Number, reference to the page where they are listed as a descendant, and state membership. Part III contains an "Honor Roll", or list, of members that served during World War I. The "Honor Roll" has its own index.

The [http://www.nscda.org National Society of The Colonial Dames of America] (NSCDA) was founded in 1891. Membership in the society requires direct descent from an ancestor who resided in an American colony prior to 1750 which ancestor or some one of his descendants being a lineal ascendant of the applicant shall have rendered efficient service to his country during the Colonial period up to July 5, 1776. The society consists of 44 state societies and the District of Columbia.
