History:
The first Norwegian settler to cross the Puget Sound was Zakarias Martin Taftzon (died 1901). He was a shoemaker and had roots from the Northern parts of Norway. After arriving in America he married a Native American woman and had two sons.

1889 Washington Posten was created, later changed to Western Viking. The largest Norwegian newspaper in America today.
