Part 1: Set Up a Sandbox[edit | edit source]
1. Open a sandbox and copy and paste the code below into the sandbox.

2. Click save.
Part 2: Select a Country[edit | edit source]
1. Go to the task list.
2. Put you name in the name column on the same line as the country you want to work on.
3. Click the name of the country, and it will take you to the existing Wiki societies page in the Wiki for your country.
===Part 3: Review the Current Wiki Page===
1. Review the information on the Wiki page.
2. Check for headings that do not contain any information. We will address that starting in Part 5.
3. Click each link and check to make sure it still works. Broken links should be removed. We will address findin them in part 5.
4. Look for message boards that are listed in place of genealogical societies. We will move these to the correct place in Part 5.
5. Check for any naked links that need to be named. We will fix those in Part 4.

Part 4 3: Move Resources to the Sandbox that Belong on the Page[edit | edit source]
1. Check for headings that do not contain any information.
1. Move each society/resource from the existing Wiki societies page to your sandbox one at a time. Leave out any broken links.
2. Entries with naked links [you will need to explain what naked links are] need to be fixed. You can fix them by copying and pasting the code below into your sandbox.

3. Replace URL in the previous code you copied and pasted with the current URL for the society in place of URL in the code you copied and pasted.
4. Replace the words NAME OF SOCIETY in the code you copied and pasted with the name of the society.
5. Any message boards can be moved from the Genealogical Societies heading to the Additional Resources Heading.
6. Reformat the message board entries using the following code.

7. Copy the URL of from the message board and paste it into the code.
8. Replace WEBSITE NAME with the name of the site where the message board is hosted.
9. Replace COUNTRY NAME with the name of the the country. See below for example.

Part 5 4: Update the Genealogical Societies Section[edit | edit source]
1. Go to the "Genealogical Societies" heading in your sandbox.
2. If any societies have broken links for your website, Check the societies for broken links, try searching Google for working links and replace them. try searching for them using Google and then replacing them.
2. If there are no genealogical societies for the page, search for them on Google. [Is this part of the instructions above?]
3. You may need to search for them in the language of the country. Use Google translate to search for them.
Example search terms: Costa Rica Genealogical Society or Sociedad Genealógica de Costa Rica.
4. Add the information where you find societies. [I am not sure what you mean by this. Under which heading are they supposed to put the information?] You can copy and paste the code below to help you format it correctly.

Part 6 5: Update the Historical Societies Section[edit | edit source]
1. Go to the heading "Historical Societies".
2. If there are societies listed there, replace any broken links found in Part 4.
3. Do a Google search to find these societies and replace them.
4. Once those links are fixed, go to part 7.

Part 7 6: Skip the Other Societies Heading[edit | edit source]
1. Yes. You can skip this one. It is a place holder in case there are no genealogical or historical societies. The project leader will search for other possible societies and use this heading.
Part 8 7: Save Your Work[edit | edit source]
1. Click show preview.
2. Check your work.
3. Click save.
4. Place the link to your sandbox in the task list and put the date in the date column.
5. If there are no historical or genealogical societies, please not that in the notes column on the task list.
Finding Resource for Caribbean Countries[edit | edit source]
For Caribbean countries, Candoo.com has a listing of societies, libraries and archives that may be helpful. Please only add societies from this page. Archives, libraries and museums have a different page in the Wiki.
