1871-1873: Mizra Hosein Khan Sepahsalar instigated reforms that led to census style data collection. 1930-1940: Full census attempted and abandoned after Anglo-Soviet Invasion 1956: First complete, national census.

- Names and ages of every man, woman, and child in their villages
- List of the dead and the newborn each year
1956-2016: Most of the data contains:
- district and province
- population size
- number of households
- mean household size
- approximate number of migrant tribe population
May include:

- relationship to head of house
