Brief History[edit | edit source]

The 1st Regiment, Wisconsin Infantry was organized at Camp Scott, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and mustered in October 19, 1861. The non-Veterans were ordered to Nashville, Tennessee, September 21. The Veterans and Recruits were transferred to the 21st Wisconsin Infantry. The regiment was mustered out October 13, 1864. [1]

Companies in this Regiment with the Counties of Origin[edit | edit source]

Men often enlisted in a company recruited in the counties where they lived though not always. After many battles, companies might be combined because so many men were killed or wounded. However if you are unsure which company your ancestor was in, try the company recruited in his county first.
