Before 1823: Vila Velha (at the time the headquarters were located in the village of the current district of Arapari in Serra da Uruburetama)

1823: Municipality of Imperatriz with headquarters in the village of São José;

1862: Municipality of Imperatriz with headquarters in the village of Itapipoca;

1889: Itapipoca;

1911: Itapipoca [Included the districts of Itapipoca, Assunção, Ipu da Rajada, Pão de Açúcar (now Missi), São Bento d'Amontada (now Amontada) and São José (now Arapari)];

1920: Itapipoca [Included the districts of Itapipoca, Assunção, Ipu da Rajada (current Rajada), Pão de Açúcar, São Bento d'Amontada, São José and São Pedro da Timbaúba (current Miraíma)];

1933: Itapipoca [Includes the districts of Itapipoca, Assunção, Barrenta (currently Cruxati), Pernambuquinho (currently Icaraí de Amontada), Rajada, São Bento d'Amontada (currently Amontada), São José (currently Arapari) and Timbaúba (currently Miraíma) , not including the Pão de Açúcar district];
