World Conference 1980 Update

Purpose[edit | edit source]

  • Part A: Gather the correct urls from the FS digital library website for each talk given in the conference and add them to the Task List.
  • Part B: Add the new urls obtained from Part A to the World Conference on Records 1980 Wiki page.

Task List[edit | edit source]

Part A - Obtain the Links[edit | edit source]

Step One - Sign Up[edit | edit source]

  • Go to the task list and sign your name for the first entry on the list: task list



  • Log into FamilySearch.org. If you don't do this, many of the links to the digital books will not work. Remember that sometimes you may be logged into the Wiki but not FamilySearch.



Step Two - Find the Talk in Digital Library[edit | edit source]

  • Note the name of the talk and the author.





  • Use the digital book links to get to the different volumes to locate the talk. They are in numerical order.



Step Three - Copy the URL[edit | edit source]

  • Once you locate the talk in the digital library and you are on the first page of the talk, copy the URL and paste it to the spreadsheet in column F, next to the title and author.



Step Four - Mark the Spreadsheet[edit | edit source]

  • Once you have the link on the spreadsheet, put the date beside the entry and move on to the next one on the list.



Part B - Update Wiki Page[edit | edit source]

Step One - Go to the Wiki Page[edit | edit source]

Step Two - Edit the Page in VisualEditor[edit | edit source]

  • It will be easier and more accurate to edit the page in VisualEditor. Click on the Edit tab.



  • Go to the task list and copy the URL and note the title of the talk.



Step Three - Replace the URL[edit | edit source]

  • While still in VisualEditor, locate the correct link on the table. Double click on the title and a Link dialogue box will appear.



  • Click on Edit and you will now be able to delete the old url and paste in your new url.



Step Four - Save the Page[edit | edit source]

  • Click on Done in the Edit Link dialogue box.

  • The Save changes blue button will appear in the top right hand corner of the screen. Click on it.

  • Add this phrase to the Summery field:

  • Click on the Save changes button on the Save your changes dialogue box.


Step Five - Update Task List[edit | edit source]

  • On the Task list, add the date you completed updating the spreadsheet in column G.



Note: You may want to add 5 to 10 links at a time before saving the page. Anymore than that and you may risk losing your edits.
