Task List[edit | edit source]
Instructions[edit | edit source]
Part A - Updating Breadcrumbs[edit | edit source]
Step One - Choose a Wiki Page From the Task List[edit | edit source]
1. Go to the task list and sign up for a Wiki page to review. Click on the link to go to the Wiki page.
Step Two - Add the New Breadcrumb Wikitext Code[edit | edit source]
1. Review the page to make sure it needs a new breadcrumb.
2. If it does need a new breadcrumb, click on Edit Source at the very top of the Wiki page.
3. Copy the following wikitext and paste it at the very top of the Wiki page. It should be above the breadcrumb that is already on the page.

Step Three - Add the Links to the Breadcrumb[edit | edit source]
1. Go back to the task list to get guidance on what the new breadcrumb should include. It may or may not change from what is already on the page. Just follow the guide in Column D. Please note the guide will be only on the first line of the group of Wiki pages you are working on.
2. Go to “|link1=” and add the appropriate link to the breadcrumb according to what is listed in Column D.
3. Next go to “|link2=” and add the appropriate link to the breadcrumb according to what is listed in Column E.
4. Continue to do this for Columns F and G. There may or may not be something to list. If cell in that column is blank, skip to number 5 below
5. For last link, you will add the name of the page you are on. Use Column H to be your guide. Copy the name of the page (do not include Editing in the phrase) at the top of the page and paste it directly after “| link5=” for the first half of the link.
6. For the second part of the link after the pipe, put in an abbreviated version of the title of the page as seen in the example. Consult the list below for more guidance.
Things to Remember:
- Follow the example as much as you can. If your page is different and the breadcrumbs don't appear to apply, put the note, "Check Breadcrumb" in the date column and do what you think is correct.
- Include the name of the page for the first part and a title for the link on the second part. Do not only use the page name. For Example, England
- If the page name has the word, Genealogy as a part of it, drop it from the link title. For example, |link2= Ohio
- The last link can have an abbreviated form of the Wiki page, leaving off the state or other info. For example, |link5= Warren County
- Do not use the PAGETITLE template for the last link.
Step Four - Remove the Old Breadcrumb[edit | edit source]
1. With the new breadcrumb in place, locate the old breadcrumb on the page and remove it. Be careful not to delete anything else on the page.
Step Five - Preview and Save the Page[edit | edit source]
1. Once the breadcrumb is created, go to the bottom of the page and click on "Show preview". Check the top of the page to make sure the new breadcrumb looks correct and there are no red links. It should look like this:
Wikitext for example:

2. Double check to make sure you removed the old breadcrumb.
3. In the Edit Summary field, copy and paste the following wikitext:
Formatted breadcrumb - project
4. Return to the task list to type in the date when you completed it and choose the next wiki page on the list.
