Content: Probate records (sometimes called "Succession Records") may give date of death, names and residences of heirs (spouse, children, parents, siblings, in-laws, relative) and neighbors or associates.
Record types: Wills, estates, guardianships, naturalizations, and adoptions.
Kept in probate courts before 1845, they have since been kept by the clerk of the district court. Probate records may be included in notarial records or with deeds and mortgages. See Louisiana Probate Records for more information.
