The Grosvenor Room

The Buffalo and Erie County Public Library's genealogy and local history department is known as the Grosvenor [pronounced GROVE-ner] Room. It is the premiere genealogical destination in Western New York. The focus of the collection is on Buffalo and Erie County, however, it includes resources related to other New York counties, states, and foreign countries. The collections of the Western New York Genealogical Society and the Polish Genealogical Society of New York State are housed in the Grosvenor Room. This page lists databases, special collections, and other materials of interest to genealogists.

Local History File

As a service to their patrons doing genealogical research, the Grosvenor Room has an extensive card file called the Local History File, with thousands of newspaper citations. Most date from the 1930s to the 1980s. In addition to obituaries, it lists articles about people, places, things, and events drawn from Buffalo newspapers.
