Birth and death records from the Trust Territory Archives (1800-1986) are on microfilm at the United States National Archives, the University of Hawaii, Manoa, Pacific Collection and the National Archives of the Federated States of Micronesia at Palikir,Pohnpei.

Historical Background[edit | edit source]
In 1574, Palau became part of the Spanish East Indies. In 1899, the islands became part of German New Guinea. After World War I, the Palau islands were made a part of the Japanese South Seas Mandate. In 1947, Palau was made a part of the United States Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands. In 1994, Palau became independent under a Compact of Free Association with the United States.[1]
