Historical Background[edit | edit source]
For centuries Trinidad was inhabited by native Amerindian peoples. The island of Tobago changed hands among Spanish, British, French, Dutch and Courlander colonists many times. Africans were also brought to the islands. The citizens have a wide variety of ancestors.[1]
