Church Records and Civil Registration

  • FamilySearch Historical Record Collection for the Netherlands has church records (best record to use before 1811) and civil registration (best record to use after 1811). However, they are much easier to navigate using Zoek Akten as an index.
  • Instructions for Zoek Akten: Click on the two-letter abbreviation tab for the province. This will bring up a list of localities. Click on the locality you want. Next you will see a list of record types to select.

The following records have their own index. Please note that the following collections, while covering the same time periods, are not duplicate databases. Each should be searched to guarantee coverage of all currently available records. These are growing collections, and should be searched again in the future. Ancestry.com and MyHeritage.com can be searched free of charge at your local Family History Center or the Family History Library in Salt Lake City, Utah.

  • Digitale Stamboom. Indexed births, marriages, deaths,and other records from Gemmentearchief Delt, Archief Emland, Regionaal Historisch Centrum Eindhoven, Gemeentearchief Rotterdam, Haags Gemeentearchief.
  • Archivenet, website for the Dutch archive system]. If searching for a specific locality, click on “Nederland” in the top left and choose either “plaats” (place) or “provincie” (province). Click on the locality in which you want to search, and a list of all the archives, by type and town, comes up with automatic links.English is available for part of the site.
