Zwolle, Overijssel

Zwolle is a city and municipality in Overijssel. It is the capital city, and was historically the largest city. It is located on the IJssel river, near the mouth, in the north west part of the province. In 1967 it absorbed the former municipality Zwollerkerspel.

Church Records[edit | edit source]

Many different religions existed in Zwolle before 1811. Dutch Reformed, Catholic, Lutheran, Jewish, Waalonia Reformed and Mennonite(Doopsgezinde)

Baptisms[edit | edit source]

-Dutch Reformed records can be accessed through Van Papier Naar Digitaal (VPND). Note there were 3 Dutch Reformed Churches. One of them, the Broerenkerk, kept a separate register between 1774 and 1794. All the records are transcribed. 'A' of the alphabetical register for Dutch Reformed baptisms is on VPND

-Catholics: records for the 4 parishes of Zwolle are on Van Papier Naar Digitaal on this separate page. Some transcriptions exist. Some years in the early 1800s are not on VPND, but can be accessed through the Historisch Centrum Overijssel 0709 Zwolle and Zwollerkerspel DTB page.

Every one, of any religion, had to marry in the Dutch Reformed Church. The records for both Zwolle are on VPND on this page. Records for Windesheim Zwollerkerspel) are also on VPND.
