Sequoyah Boarding School (Oklahoma)

Sequoyah High School originated in 1871. It is a boarding school operated by the Cherokee Nation. It has undergone several name changes, including Cherokee Orphan Training School, Sequoyah Orphan Training School, and Sequoyah Vocational School. It was operated by the Bureau of Indian Affairs from 1914 to 1985, when the Cherokee Nation again assumed its operation.

Student Case Files, 1911-1984, are among the holdings of the Southwest Regional Archives of the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) in Fort Worth, Texas.

Some records of Sequoyah School may be embedded in the records of the Muskogee Area Office and the Five Civilized Tribes Agency, many of which are housed at the Southwest Regional Archives of NARA in Fort Worth.
