Companies in this Regiment with the Counties of Origin

Men often enlisted in a company recruited in the counties where they lived though not always. After many battles, companies might be combined because so many men were killed or wounded. However if you are unsure which company your ancestor was in, try the company recruited in his county first.

Company A - enrolled in Jackson County and Clinton County

Company B - enrolled in Cedar County

Company C - enrolled in Cedar County

Company D - enrolled in Johnson County, Cedar County &c.

Company E - enrolled in Tama County and Iowa County

Company F - enrolled in Linn County

Company G - enrolled in Linn County

Company H - enrolled in Linn County

Information about the companies and their counties comes from Iowa. Adjutant General's Office, Report of the Adjutant General and Acting Quartermaster General of the State of Iowa, (Des Moines [Iowa]: F.W. Palmer, 1863), pages 850-883. FHL book 977.7 M25ag.
