Brief History[edit | edit source]
22nd Infantry Regiment completed its organization at Montogmery, Alabama, in November, 1861. Its companies were raised in the counties of Walker, Clarke, Cherokee, Mobile, Pike, Choctaw, Montgomery, Calhoun, and Randolph. The regiment was included in the surrender on April 26, 1865.[1]
Companies in this Regiment with the Counties of Origin[edit | edit source]
Men often enlisted in a company recruited in the counties where they lived though not always. After many battles, companies might be combined because so many men were killed or wounded. However if you are unsure which company your ancestor was in, try the company recruited in his county first.
Companies by County:
Company A - many men from Walker County
Company B "Frank Lyon Rifles" - many men from Clarke County
Company C "Brownrigg Warriors" - many men from Choctaw County
Company D - many men from Cherokee County
Company E - many men from Calhoun County
Company F - many men from Randolph County
Company G - many men from Randolph County
Company H "Sam Cooper Rifles" - many men from Mobile County
Company I - many men from Pike County
Company K - many men from Montgomergy County and Pike County
