The 126th Regiment, Ohio Infantry was organized at Camp Steubenville, Ohio, and mustered in September 4, 1862. They were sent to Washington, District of Columbia, May 24-June 2.  They were mustered out June 25, 1865. [1]

Companies in this Regiment with the Counties of Origin

Men often enlisted in  a company recruited in the counties where they lived though not always. After many battles, companies might be combined because so many men were killed or wounded.  However if you are unsure which company your ancestor  was in, try the company recruited in his county first.

Companies by County:
Company A - Many men from Harrison County.
Company B - Many men from Belmont County.
Company C - Many men from Harrison County.
Company D - Many men from Jefferson County.
Company E - Many men from Tuscarawas County.
Company F - Many men from Carrol County.
Company G - Many men from Tuscarawas County.
Company H - Many men from Harrison County.
Company I - Many men from Fairfield County.
Company K - Many men from Perry County.
