FamilySearch Wiki:Editing the Wiki
Revision as of 14:05, 12 March 2024 by Amberannelarsen (talk | contribs) (→Exceptions - FS Centers and Affiliate Libraries)
Why Editing Rights are Limited
The Research Wiki has relied on FamilySearch staff and genealogical community members to add or change content. After 16 years, FamilySearch has formalized policies and procedures to define the content allowed in the Research Wiki. To improve standardization of content and structure of pages to meet these goals, all contributors will need to understand and follow the policies and procedures. FamilySearch contributor training is being developed and will be available July 1, 2024.
Editing Rights for Community Contributors - Suspended March 31, 2024
- Editing Suspended on English Wiki Content - March 31, 2024: To properly communicate these changes to all Wiki editors, all new and current Wiki editors will be required to complete Wiki training. Until the training is provided, editing the English Wiki will be turned off for all new and current community editors on March 31, 2024.
- Wiki Manual of Style Training: FamilySearch staff are creating Wiki contributor training to educate members of the community in the standard of wiki edits as contained in the Wiki Manual of Style. Training videos will be provided July 1, 2024. Those interested in editing the Wiki shall complete this training to receive editing rights.
- Submit Content to the FamilySearch Wiki: In the interim between March 31, 2024 and July 1, 2024, those who wish to contribute to the Wiki will be encouraged to use the Submit Wiki Content/Report a Problem form. FamilySearch Staff will review the requests and update the Wiki accordingly.
Exceptions - FS Centers and Affiliate Libraries
- FamilySearch Center Wiki pages: FamilySearch Center staff will be able to edit the Center pages until July 1, 2024 at which time the pages will be removed from the Wiki. All center information will need to be transferred onto the FamilySearch Locator Map. EXCEPTION: Large FS centers and FSCs requesting Brightspot pages, will retain their Wiki pages until the Brightspot pages are completed. For more information. To request editing rights, use this form.
- FamilySearch Affiliate Library: Those adding information to the Wiki about their FamilySearch Affiliate Library may continue to do so until July 1, 2024 when all editors will be required to complete Wiki training (including affiliate library staff). To request editing rights, use this form.
