Logan Utah FamilySearch Center

Discovery Center

Discovery - to see, get knowledge of, learn of, find or find out; gain sight or knowledge of something previously unseen or unknown.

The Discovery Center enables visitors to enjoy enlightening experiences as they uncover exciting new realities about themselves, their connections to their families, and to other individuals and groups throughout the world past and present.

Our Discovery Center includes 13 large, interactive touch screens with cameras allowing users to explore amazing facts about themselves and compare their photo to ancestor pictures. Learn more about these activities in the Discovery area of the FamilySearch website at FamilySearch Discovery.

Logan FamilySearch Center Picture My Heritage
Picture Your Heritage
Snap a picture of yourself or your group standing in front of a scene from the country of your ancestors or your favorite temple. Send these photos to yourself or other family members via email address or text message.
Record My Story
Need prompts to tell your story? The Oral History room provides great questions to jump-start your recorded personal history, or use your own questions to tell and record your story. Recording both audio and video in five-minute segments, users can then preview, re-record, or accept the recording.

Participants can then download the recorded story via email or text. The audio portion can also be uploaded into FamilySearch Memories using a FamilySearch account. If logged into FamilySearch, these files (audio and video) are stored for 60 days and may be downloaded repeatedly until they expire.

Preparing for Your Visit
  • If you have a FamilySearch account, bring your account username and password.
  • If you do not have an account, set one up before coming by clicking this link: Create a FamilySearch Account
    • Parents who wish to create an account for a child under 13 can do so by following these instructions: Creating an Account for a Child Under 13
    • If parents would like to have their child use the parent account in the Discovery Center, see instructions below.
  • Before coming, make sure you added a connection to at least one deceased ancestor on your tree. A good rule is to go back four generations if possible.
  • Assistance is available at the Center should you need help to create your account or build your tree.
  • If you have a smart device with a camera to scan a QR code, logging into any of these areas will be much quicker and easier.
    • If parents desire a child to use the parent account in the Discovery Center, they may generate an authorization code by clicking on the following link and log into FamilySearch prior to the child leaving home: Authorization to Log In.
    • After the parent logs in, they will see a code. Send the code with your child to the FamilySearch Center. The code will be valid for two hours after activation at the FamilySearch Center.
