Saint Kitts had Carib indigenous people for thousands of years. Europeans began arriving in the 1600s. Spanish, French and British settled there. African slaves were soon brought to work the plantations. Expansion depth limit exceeded

The Islands of St. Christopher (now known as St. Kitts) and Nevis, which formed part of the Leeward Islands Federation from 1871 to 1956, and part of the Federation of the West Indies from 1958 to 1962, gained "association" status with Great Britain in 1967 and became fully independent in 1983. Saint Kitts and Nevis is part of the British Commonwealth.
