Class Reminders for the week of September 5th through the 9th at the Payson FamilySearch Center

We appreciate all the people who are helping at the Onion Days FamilySearch Center Booth and Parade. It is a great way to let people in our community know about our services and get them excited to do family history work. Here is a reminder of the free classes that we are offering at the center this week. All classes are free and can be watched on zoom. Signing up for the classes is not necessary.

Tuesday, September 5th, at 10:30 am, Steve Lowry will be teaching Finding Temple Names Thru Descendancy. Steve has worked in the computer industry for the last 46 years. His last 13 years were with FamilySearch until retiring last April. During his time at FamilySearch he dug into the intricacies of the FamilySearch program and he was excited when he received a call to be the Temple and Family History Leader in 2016. Since then, he has taught many Family History classes at church and on the web. He continues to teach a class several times a year, via Zoom and was excited to be asked to teach at the Payson FamilySearch center. His class has a special zoom link. Wednesday, September 6th, at 1 pm, Kristy Bloomer and Rose Nyman, will be teaching Using Pictures and Paintings to Illustrate History. Kristy and her husband, Bob, are our directors at the FamilySearch in Payson. Do you have lots of pictures, but no stories? Kristy will teach you ways to tell your story with your pictures to pass on to your posterity in a simple and easy way. Are you an artist and want to know how to portray history using your artistic talent? Rose is an artist and photographer. You will be amazed at the beautiful ways she portrays her family through her paintings and pictures.

Thursday, September 7th, at 7 pm, Michael Buck, will be teaching in the classroom The Fascinating History of Family Search. Michael Buck worked at FamilySearch for 15 years.Come and learn how FamilySearch has come to be what it is today. Learn how things have changed along the way that are quite miraculous. Hear about the inspired people who helped change and grow FamilySearch through the years. This class will get you excited to become a part of this great work in FamilySearch.

Thursday, September 7th at 7 pm, Shelly Strand, will be teaching in the computer room, Researching Your Family. This is a hands-on class. Shelly will share resources to assist you in your search for family records. Shelly just finished her bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in Family History Research. This week, we will focus on using FamilySearch’s Record Finder. Learn about this tool that directs you to records and collections that might have the information that answers your research questions. This class is not zoomed in, it is a hands-on experience.

Saturday, September 9th at 10:30 am Kristy Bloomer and Janis Olsen will be teaching a fun class for those who love quilting and the stories they tell. You are invited to bring your quilt and tell its story. It will be a time to share how quilts tell a story of family, history, love, and events in our lives.
