History

  • The Franciscan friars founded it in colonial times as one of the reductions or "doctrines".
  • In 1765 it was recognized with the name of Nuestra Señora de la Concepción Pajixolá. From 1768 to 1770 it was called the municipality "Concepción Kixalá".
  • He joined the department of Sololá after the Independence of Central America.
  • From 1838 to 1840 he was part of the ephemeral State of Los Altos until in 1840 he reincorporated it to the State of Guatemala.
  • The department of Quiché was created on August 12, 1872, and a large part of Sololá's territory was built, although Concepción remained in the latter.
  • The municipality of Concepción has a population of approximately 4,000 people[1]
