Introduce new members[edit | edit source]
Kudos go to ...[edit | edit source]
- Michael McCormick has a great user page. Terrific example.
- Lise Embley - for all her contributions to the Wiki.
Updates and follow up[edit | edit source]
- Linkpendium discussion from last week - Nathan was going to write up something about links to this site and others like it. (Linkpendium page has been created)
- Has there been approach made to Linkpendium regarding their 1,000 edit limit? (Nathan or Danielle?)
- More discussion regarding "ethical" versus "legal"?
Business/Announcements[edit | edit source]
- Reporting on WikiProjects - is the "WikiProject" category added to all pages that are part of that WikiProject? If so, we can develop reporting around that. -- janellv (talk| contribs) 17:19, 16 May 2012 (UTC)
- Statistical reporting on changes on a project
- When pages are set up in a project, do all the pages in the project get categorized under the "WikiProject" category?
- Would statistical reporting be useful? Traffic to the pages would be valuable.
- Promotional ideas for projects - universal message on Wiki, Blogs, Facebook
- NY project will be promoted in the near future - waiting on completion of 1940 census.

Style Guide Discussions[edit | edit source]
- Mentioning and linking to other web sites - ideas, challenges, best practices. Lembley 16:46, 22 May 2012 (UTC)
- Example: Macon County, Illinois page
- It would be nice to have a uniform way of showing where the external link comes from (at) (on) before the name of the site, for instance.
- "Courtesy" should only be used unless the site has given permission.
- Make multiple links easily read - good example, Beaver County, Utah page (newspapers)
- Using commas for separation
- Visual clues to what's on the site that's being linked to - Font, wingdings is a possibility. Would we need to set up as a style guide for consistency.
- Should we distinguish sites that are free? Perhaps a $ in a circle with a line through it? Not a universal sign for British, etc. Will someone volunteer to find a universal symbol for pay or free that would be recongnizable?
- Would words "pay" and "free" be the best?
- Style guide should be updated to reflect this conversation - who? (Lise?)
- Mentioning and linking to other web sites - ideas, challenges, best practices. Lembley 16:46, 22 May 2012 (UTC)
Project Help Requests[edit | edit source]
- Need help with your project? See a project that needs to be done? Add it here:
- Barn raising when there's a new project - have one task that a person could do. If even 10 people had one task, it would get the project off to a good start.
- People would be willing to help if given an assignment with good instructions.
- "Project task force"
- Utah project has a page with "things to do"
- Jane has created generic pages that can be used as a template for a new project and they will be added to the Wiki, under Templates.
- Link to these from the project if needed and from the Projects page.
