Brief History[edit | edit source]

The 2nd Minnesota Company Sharpshooters were organized under authority of the Secretary of War at Fort Snelling, Minn., and mustered in on October 5, 1861. They were moved to Washington, D. C., October 6-10, 1861, and reported to Col. Berdan, at Camp of Instruction. They were later assigned as Company “A,” 2nd United States Sharpshooters, February 10, 1862 .

Companies in this Regiment with the Counties of Origin[edit | edit source]

Men often enlisted in  a company recruited in the counties where they lived though not always. After many battles, companies might be combined because so many men were killed or wounded.  However if you are unsure which company your ancestor  was in, try the company recruited in his county first.
