2nd Battalion, Mississippi Infantry
Brief History[edit | edit source]
2nd Infantry Battalion was organized at Jackson, Mississippi, during the summer of 1861 with five companies, later increased to six. In Novemer, 1862, additional companies joined the unit, and it became the 48th Mississippi Regiment. Its commanders were Lieutenant Colonels Thomas B. Manlove, John G. Taylor, and William S. Wilson.
Regiment Companies with the County of Origin[edit | edit source]
Men often enlisted in a company recruited in the counties where they lived though not always. After many battles, companies might be combined because so many men were killed or wounded. However if you are unsure which company your ancestor was in, try the company recruited in his county first.
