Dutch Colonization (1636-today)[edit | edit source]
In 1636, the Dutch West India Company took possession of the island. Between the 17th and 19th centuries, this island changed hands 21 times between the Netherlands, Britain and France.[1] Sint Eustatius became a member of the Netherlands Antilles in 1954 and a special municipality of the Netherlands in 2010.[2]
