The mission of the archives is to inspire Fijians to explore the records of their country; safeguard our recorded cultural heritage by preserving archival materials in accordance with international standards; support evidence-based governance by providing sound record keeping policies, standards and training; build a sense of shared responsibility for record keeping in the public service; expand Fiji’s knowledge base by encouraging in-depth archival research; and utilise appropriate technology to popularize the archives and ensure the security of archival data.
The Archives is a vast trove of information about Fiji held on documents occupying over 6km of shelving along with 2000 hours of historical AV footage and over 100,000 historical photos.

Located in the heart of Suva’s Thurston Gardens, the Fiji Museum holds a remarkable collection, which includes archaeological material dating back 3,700 years and cultural objects representing both Fiji’s indigenous inhabitants and the other communities that have settled in the island group over the past 200 years.
