Of u nu nog maar net uw wortels begint te traceren of extra middelen nodig heeft om uw zoekopdracht te voltooien, het Family History Center Heerlen biedt toegang tot de uitgebreide bronnen die beschikbaar zijn via FamilySearch International. Het Family History Center Heerlen bedient het gebied in de Nederlandse provincie Limburg, de stad Weert en zuidwaarts en de gehele Belgische provincie Limburg. Het centrum is geopend voor het publiek en de toegang is gratis. Iedereen is welkom! Groepsbezoeken kunnen wij ALLEEN op basis van een bevestigde reservering regelen.

1. Rijd door het hek dat met de link hierboven is afgebeeld. Deze wordt open gehouden tijdens de openingstijden van het centrum voor familiegeschiedenis. Na 50 meter aan de linkerkant vindt u de kerkgebouwshow waarboven het centrum voor familiegeschiedenis zich bevindt. Er zijn 15 gratis parkeerplaatsen beschikbaar voor het gebouw.

Een bezoek plannen

Ons centrum voor familiegeschiedenis wordt bemand door regionale familiegeschiedenisadviseurs die u kunnen helpen om te beginnen met familiegeschiedenisonderzoek. Zij kunnen u begeleiden bij het gebruik van de middelen en apparatuur van het Family History Center. Als u van plan bent een bezoek aan ons centrum te brengen om uw genealogie te beginnen, schrijf dan op wat u weet over de familie die u wilt onderzoeken: Namen, geboorten / huwelijk / sterfdata, en Geboorte / Huwelijk / Dood, Stad en Staat of provincie. Kies een onderzoeksdoel: bijvoorbeeld - 2 generaties terug. Dit zal onze vrijwilligers helpen om u te leren waar u het beste kunt kijken.

Deze OPEN DAG heeft als motto: ZOEK UW NAAM BIJ ONS OP EN KLIM IN UW STAMBOOM.

FamilySearch.org presenteert; Unieke onvolprezen Familiegeschiedenisonderzoeksmethode via de computer - Eenvoudiger en vooral veel sneller – Veel deskundige hulp aanwezig bij introductie nieuw systeem van onderzoek – Gratis Inschrijven Cursus Stamboomonderzoek .

Aanleiding van deze Open Dag.

De toenemende belangstelling voor familiegeschiedenis en alles wat te maken heeft met het opzoeken van overleden verwanten is de aanleiding voor het houden van een Genealogische Open Dag in het Centrum voor Familiegeschiedenis te Heerlen.

Iedereen is welkom op zaterdag 7 september 2019 van 12.00 tot 15:00 uur. Het adres is Burgemeester de Hesselleplein 26a in het centrum van Heerlen.

Historie in vogelvlucht.

In 1938 begon de Genealogische Sociëteit van Utah (GSU), thans FamilySearch, met het microfilmen van archieven. Sindsdien heeft zij dit in meer dan 200 landen gedaan. Dit is een veel gebruikte manier om gegevens uit oude archieven te bewaren.

FamilySearch-projecten voor het vastleggen van archieven wereldwijd produceren momenteel meer dan 80 miljoen afbeeldingen per jaar. FamilySearch beschikt over kopieën van vrijwel alle aktes van geboorten, huwelijken en overlijdens evenals dopen, trouwen en begraven in Nederland, België en Duitsland die voor publicatie zijn vrijgegeven.

In de laatste 9-10 jaar heeft de GSU haar meer dan 2,5 miljoen microfilmrollen bijna geheel gedigitaliseerd en zijn deze via haar internetwebsite www.FamilySearch.org te doorzoeken. FamilySearch.org publiceerde recentelijk haar 2,5 miljardste digitale beeld van historische akten. Dit brengt het totaal van doorzoekbare annalen en beelden nu op meer dan 5,8 miljard.

Centra voor familiegeschiedenis.

FamilySearch heeft meer dan 5.100 centra voor familiegeschiedenis in 140 landen over de hele wereld. De centra zijn takken van de Family History Library, vaak gelegen in kerkgebouwen van de Kerk van Jezus Christus van de Heiligen Der Laatste Dagen. Hun doel is om mensen te helpen met hun genealogie en hulp en toegang te bieden tot genealogisch materiaal en software geleverd door FamilySearch.

Wat is er op die Open Dag te doen?

Gedurende de gehele dag kan men gratis op het Internet terecht door middel van een van de 15 daar aanwezige computers om in de verslagen van uw eigen voorouders, te zoeken. Dit niet alleen onder begeleiding van deskundige hulp maar tegelijkertijd wordt er goed gebruik gemaakt van een heel speciaal algoritme dat de onderzoeker ten dienste staat wat met chirurgische precisie hun voorouders aanduid. Dit heet “Record Hints” en het is een onvolprezen nieuw systeem dat nog veel introductie behoeft en de mensen kunnen er direct mee aan de slag. De aanwezige deskundige leiding assisteert hen hierin en daardoor kunnen de bezoekers die er gebruik van maken meteen succes hebben.

Gratis cursus Stamboomonderzoek.

Op deze open dag is kan men zich ook inschrijven voor een gratis cursus stamboomonderzoek voor beginners inclusief het leren omgaan met dit nieuwe onvolprezen systeem. In plaats van slechts een cursus familiegeschiedenis, klassikaal, met weinig persoonlijke aandacht, wordt men niet alleen één op één geïnstrueerd, maar ook nog eens met behulp van de akten van de cursist zijn eigen voorgeslacht als trainingsmateriaal. Men gaat dus meteen met zijn eigen voorgeslacht aan de slag. Na afronding van de cursus is men in staat niet alleen volledig zelfstandig onderzoek te doen naar zijn of haar voorouders maar ook om dit nu, én veel sneller én ook nog veel gemakkelijker te doen dan dat dit al eerder mogelijk was met de internationaal allergrootste en gedigitaliseerde microfilmbeelden collectie online.

We willen graag zo zoveel mogelijk mensen te bereiken om aan hen dit nieuwe systeem te introduceren waarna men, na het volgen van een gratis cursus familiegeschiedenisonderzoek, klaar is om het nieuwe systeem zelf te leren toe te passen in hun eigen leven. Dit vergt enige voorbereiding maar het is gemakkelijk aan te leren omdat het zo goed is voorbereid. We willen graag alle mensen geheel gratis ten dienste staan die het willen proberen om hun brandend verlangen te stillen om te weten wie hun voorouders zijn. Deze zijn nu veel gemakkelijker en veel sneller op te zoeken met het nieuwe systeem, INTERNATIONAAL! Er zijn geen landsgrenzen meer met het nieuwe systeem.

Hoe u uzelf veel tijd kan besparen.

Hebt U graag voldoende tijd om te worden begeleid, neem dan de tijd om u voor te bereiden. Dan gaat het veel sneller met uw onderzoek op de Open Dag ter plekke. Het beste is dat u alvast uw persoonlijke account aanmaakt op www.FamilySearch.org en dan uzelf, uw ouders en uw grootouders met al hun volledige voornamen goed invult.

In geval u jonger dan 30 jaar bent neem dan ook de tijd om navraag te doen naar enkele van uw overgrootouders en vul deze alvast in op www.FamilySearch.org.

Dit bespaart u veel tijd terwijl u het Centrum tijdens de open dag bezoekt omdat u dan veel sneller geholpen kunt worden met het vinden van uw voorouders. Dit is een echte aanrader om zoveel mogelijk profijt te hebben op die dag van de deskundige hulp die daar aanwezig is en welke u heel graag verder wil helpen.

Vergeet vooral niet om uw vers aangemaakte Gebruikersnaam en Wachtwoord mee te nemen om daarmee samen met de begeleiding op de Open Dag te kunnen inloggen.

Indien het u niet lukt om een account aan te maken, geen probleem. De aanwezige deskundige hulp zal dit dan graag voor u doen, zodat u op die dag  zelf niets hoeft te missen.

De FamilySearch Catalog (voormalig Family History Library Catalog) beschrijft genealogische bronnen van FamilySearch.org, de Family History Library, en geselecteerde FamilySearch Centers.

De Catalogus is een gids voor geboorte-, huwelijks- en overlijdensakten; volkstellingsakten; kerkregisters; boeken; tijdschriften; familiegeschiedenissen en vele andere documenten die genealogische informatie bevatten. Deze archieven kunnen online, op microfiche of microfilm, in een boek of in een computerbestand doorzoekbaar zijn.

Sommige vermeldingen in de FamilySearch Catalogus bevatten afbeeldingen van archiefstukken. Wanneer een afbeelding beschikbaar is in de catalogus, verschijnt rechts van de microfilmnoot die bij die afbeelding hoort, een camerapictogram.

Patrons may bring their own laptops for note-taking or entering information into personal genealogical programs, with the disclaimer that the owner is responsible for the security of the device. Wireless internet is currently available in the building, though there may be days when availability is limited due to updating, etc.
