Cape Verde

Languages

The mother tongue of Cape Verdeans is Crioulo. It is based on a Portuguese root vocabulary and a simplified grammar. Portuguese speakers have a difficult time understanding the Crioulo. However, Portuguese is the official language and the language of the genealogical sources.^[1]
