Why have this page and the disambiguation policy page?[edit | edit source]

To make the wiki more navigable, a disambiguation policy has been created on the necessity for disambiguating page titles. So that page is about whether to disambiguate page titles (and the answer is "we must"). By contrast, this page will be about how to disambiguate. Currently there is a discussion on how it should be done. After that discussion reaches consensus, the how-to guidelines will appear on this page.

What is disambiguation?[edit | edit source]

In every wiki, issues arise with page titles being ambiguous, or worded in such a way that the reader cannot determine the topic of the article by reading its title. This affects a user's ability to effectively Search on a topic. For more details, see Policy:Disambiguation.
