Task Description[edit | edit source]
Copy preset birth paragraphs and links under the "Birth" heading for each of Utah's 29 counties. Then adapt the paragraphs and links to the county.
FYI: Using templates allows wording to be consistent from county to county. Changes can be made in one place and appear wherever those templates were posted.
Since you will be "toggling" between this task page and the county page, you may want to have both pages open at the same time. Simply right-click on Project page (colored section on the right) and select either "Open in new window" or "Open in new tab." |
It is expected that this task will take 30 - 60 minutes per county, since some finding and citing of sources will be needed.
Steps[edit | edit source]
Step 1. Prep[edit | edit source]
A. Sign in to the Wiki, then open the county page |
Once you have two windows opened, switch back and forth between them by mousing over the tabs, or Alt+Tab keys between two windows.
B. Sign up for a county |
1. Go to the Sign up Chart and follow directions to sign up for a county.
2. Type the name of that county (such as Garfield) in the edit Summary box and Save Page
3. Click to the County and go to the Birth heading.
Step 2. Put the planned info on the county page[edit | edit source]
A. Copy the codes |
1. Toggle (Alt+Tab or mouse) back to this task page
2. Copy (highlight then Ctrl+C) the following cryptic mix of codes and words. (NOT in Edit mode):

B. Paste to the county page |
1. Toggle to the county page
2. In edit mode (WikiText)
- Place the cursor under the Birth heading
- Paste (Ctrl+V) the cryptic stuff
3. In the edit Summary, write "Copied planned birth info"
4. Save page.
Step 3. Adapt the planned info to the county[edit | edit source]

3. Include/adapt/remove (as appropriate) what others had put in the Birth heading previously.
- Does their info duplicate what we have?
- Yes: remove theirs
- No: Leave it alone, toggle back to this task page and write a comment in the "remarks" column for the county. (This allows their data to reviewed later without holding up the task)

- FYI: This creates a link to a blank page. I will use your link and in Excel create the town and date list and the page (almost automatically). It's too tough to explain, and easy to do for 29 counties.
3. Type in the edit Summary, "Adapted birth links to current county" and Save page
Step 4. Update this task page for that county[edit | edit source]
A. Update the sign up chart |
1. Your choice: use 4 tildes ~~~~ or just put the date in the "Date completed" column.
2. Make any remarks (As you do this task, you may have wording or other changes to suggest. Or there may be other content for that county to be reviewed later.) 3. In the Summary write "completed ___ county" and Save page
Step 5. Repeat Steps 1-4 for the next county[edit | edit source]
Sign up Chart[edit | edit source]
Volunteers are needed to check all 29 counties, adding items as appropriate. Please place four tildes (~~~~) in the "Volunteer" column next to the counties you choose for this task. This will automatically show your username and the date you signed up.
