Task Description[edit | edit source]
Add links to valuable information about the county or its records on the UTGenWeb pages for each of the 29 counties.
Search the county GenWeb site for items of genealogical or historical value for research, such as databases, indexes, maps, history, tips, etc.
See Guidelines for Including Links (or Not).
For each item you find:
1. In the FamilySearch Wiki, place the link under the appropriate topic heading, such as Cemeteries, Land Records, Obituaries, etc.
2. Link to the exact place on their site where the item is found.
- a. If you cannot link to the exact place, describe how to navigate to it on the site.
- b. Link to the area where the user can browse like items, such as cemeteries. Please do not link to each one from the FamilySearch Wiki.
3. Describe the link so the user will know what to expect.
4. Identify the UTGenWeb Site they are linking to, such as "the county GenWeb site" and link to the contents page for that site. (The county GenWeb site is found by clicking on the county from UTGenWeb)
Examples[edit | edit source]
The following examples may be helpful:
- (Under Military Records)
- World War II (1941–1945) army enlistments at the county GenWeb site has about 400 entries, mostly from Beaver and Salt Lake Counties. Key at end of list explains codes and columns. Gives year and state of birth. Free.
- (Under Vital Records)
- 1904 deaths This county GenWeb site contains about 45 entries which are user submitted. (May not be complete). Click on an entry to see details transcribed from state death certificates. Free.
The above links consist of:
- The link — to the exact location on the website for this topic.
- The words of the link — which tells the user what type of item they are linking to.
- The ID of the site — in this case, "county GenWeb site"
- A link to the main page of that county-level site. This was obtained by clicking to the county from UTGenWeb
- Description to help the user decide to click or not — Years included (in this case, the years are in the words of the link); approx # entries; what information is given in each entry; how to find column/code interpretations; other information the user needs.
- Cost: Free or $.
