Why Community Contributing Editing Rights are Suspended[edit | edit source]
The Research Wiki has relied on the genealogical community and FamilySearch staff to add or change content to the Wiki. After 16 years, FamilySearch has formalized policies and procedures to define and refine the content allowed in the Research Wiki. To improve standardization of content and structure of pages to meet these goals, FamilySearch Wiki Administration has been working to create training and new layouts for Wiki pages. In the process of standardizing, Wiki Administration has run into several obstacles which limit our ability to work with community contributors. Thus, all Wiki editing by community members is suspended until further notice.
English Wiki at 150,000 Pages[edit | edit source]
Because of the help of contributors in the community and at FamilySearch for numerous years, there are many helpful pages available for users. We thank the community editors for the hours of time and effort made to make the Research Wiki a powerful tool for researchers to use in their genealogy work. Thank you!
Standardization is the Key[edit | edit source]
Some of these 150,000 pages are out of date and formatted in ways that make it difficult to find information for our users. Wiki Administration and FamilySearch staff are working on projects to fix pages and update information. Please help by submitting any new content or any problems seen on the Submit Wiki Content/Report a Problem form.
WCAG Requirements[edit | edit source]
To improve accessibility of the Research Wiki for disabled persons and to comply with the WCAG 2.1 requirements, we will be updating the interface of the Wiki tool and individual Wiki pages.
Submit Contributions[edit | edit source]
Please report all errors and any new collections discovered on the:
- Submit Wiki Content/Report a Problem form
- FamilySearch Staff will review the requests and update the Wiki accordingly.
